We rear approximately 400 calves annually, formerly cross bred dairy heifer replacements but now mainly Aberdeen Angus crossed with calves from a local dairy farm. Approx. 250 in the autumn and 150 in the spring.
Our calf rearing system is very simple, with calves in groups of approximately 40, in large pens with access to an outside area with straw bedding. They are fed warm ilk warm milk replacer through a Dairy Spares 50 teat trailed calf feeder twice daily.
